The <em>impression<\/em>! The idea is to show that you can always appear to be right, even if you\u2019re wrong. A true source of inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut it\u2019s a book that preaches being underhanded!\u201d you will say. Yes and no. It also gives you the tools to thwart all the manipulation techniques used by clients, who are never short on ideas for explaining why your competitors are better and less expensive. Both parties use dialectics to influence and persuade each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schopenhauer\u2019s book contains 38 stratagems for outmaneuvering others.&nbsp; We have selected five:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"conceal-your-game\">Conceal your game<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like in Poker, you have to be discreet and keep an ace up your sleeve! Don\u2019t be predictable. You can\u2019t let your opponent see what your next move is. Don\u2019t lay all your cards on the table and don\u2019t be as forthcoming as possible if it means revealing a weakness! <em>Example: Clients will have trouble pulling the trigger if they know they\u2019re the first to purchase a product, but there has to be a first customer for every product!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"appeal-to-authority\">Appeal to authority<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You need a third party to appeal to authority. A third party not taking part in the conversation and, if possible, impossible to question or too vague to define. That\u2019s tough to counter.<em> Example: \u201cIt\u2019s the market that sets the prices, not me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"categorize-your-opponent\">Categorize your opponent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea here is to lump your opponent\u2019s assertion together with a theory that\u2019s frowned upon or an unpopular opinion. <em>Example:<\/em> <em>I see what you mean but everyone does that these days.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"diversion\">Diversion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>if the discussion turns in your opponent\u2019s favor, you can take back the advantage by introducing a red herring and insisting that\u2019s it\u2019s relevant to the conversation, even if that\u2019s not the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Example: Seeking trade-offs in a negotiation where the client asks you to lower your prices is a good example of this tactic.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"anger-your-opponent-careful-with-this-one\">Anger your opponent (careful with this one)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your opponent is angry and it shows, Schopenhauer explains that you should point that out immediately and harp on it. Anger clouds people\u2019s judgment.
